What exactly is romance? It's a commonly used term that can mean so much in a relationship. I think a good definition of romance is something that brings a couple closer together and more in love. It can be something as simple as a smile or a kind word. It can also be spending time with them or doing them a special favor. There are many, many things you can do in your relationship to fill it full of love and romance!

Ben-Hur

Broken Blossom

****--or almost any silent movie. They are all fascinating because the acting is done with body language, especially in the eyes. You can almost feel what the characters feel.

Casablanca

****--One of the classic romantic movies.

Dracula

****--the one directed by Coppola--this might seem weird, but seeing the love this vampire had for this woman was incredible, okay, so it's gory? All the more reason to go see it and hold each other during the scary parts.

The English Patient

****--it's Great, of course, but everyone knows that.

The House of Flying Daggers

****--A beautiful martial arts film, with romance and fighting that is equally enchanting.

Joy Luck Club

****--When you're being taken for granted, RENT THIS MOVIE!

King of Hearts

****--get the foreign version with subtitles, this is a funny but great movie, not necessarily romantic, but it's a fun movie to watch.

L.A. Story

****--This is a great movie where a traffic sign gives more than general street directions. It's full of great performances and thoughtful dialogue.

****--A powerful movie that mixes comedy, a love story, and the Nazi prison camps into an incredible movie that is both meaningful to the mind and touches your heart.

****--A very funny movie about a couple that has VERY different family backgrounds and how the two collide. This is a great movie for anyone getting close to a having their own wedding and dealing with the usual family issues.

Romeo and Juliet

****--either the Zeferilli or the most recent version, I adore them both, and it's a classic.

Shakespeare In Love

****--The take of Will Shakespeare in 1590 England, struggling to write a play and find love. But once he does the sparks fly as he finds more than he bargains for in writing Romeo and Juliet. It is a feat of wonder that such a simple idea could be done so well, but that's Shakespeare for you.

When Harry Met Sally

****--Funny and romantic.

Woody Allen films

****--especially Annie Hall and Hannah and Her Sisters--stay away from Crimes and Misdemeanors and Husbands and Wives until After the divorce.

***--confusing in parts, but it's really cool when the handsome guy realizes he's in love with the regular girl--smart guy :)

Forrest Gump

***--it's so sad, but geez, you can't leave it off this list.

Private Benjamin

***--This is the movie to see when you've just broken up with someone--it'll show you there is life out there still, and it's funny.
